Ronald "Ron" William Artest, shooting forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, passed away at 31 years old. Ron's psychiatrist broke into his home late September 26, fatally wounding the athlete with a blow to the head. Ron was born in Queens, New York on November 13, 1979. His parents are Ron and Sarah Artest, along with his two younger brothers Isaiah and Daniel. Ron played college basketball and was a Mathematics majors at St. John's University from 1997-1999, which he followed with a draft to the Chicago Bulls in 1999. From there his basketball career skyrocketed as he joined the Indiana Pacers (2002-2006), then the Sacramento Kings (2006-2008), the Houston Rockets for a year, and finishing his career with the Lakers.
Throughout his career he earned several awards including NBA All-Star in 2004, NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2004, and the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA Championship this year. Ron was passionate about PETA and sponsored many ads promoting the spaying and neutering of animals. Ron survived by his wife Kimisha Artest, they met when they were 16 years old in high school. Together they have had three children: Sadie, Ron III, and Diamond. Ron has one child with his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Palma. Ron was an outstanding athlete, loved by many fans and family members.
Ronald's funeral will be held at 4 pm Saturday October 2 at Hollywood Forever Funeral Home and Cemetery. The wake will be Friday October 1 at 6 pm at the Hollywood Forever Funeral Home. A special ceremony will be held for fans at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles at 8 pm Friday October 1. The Artest family asks that any gifts be made out in monetary forms to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
